Baraka House

Baraka House, Watamu, Kenya's Coast.

Type: Private House

Region: Watamu

Activities: Snorkeling, Diving, Wind Surfing

Safaris: Upon Request

Baraka, the local word for joy and well-being, expresses the flavor of enchantment surrounding this lovely Swahili style home. The house offers:

  • Three luxury, ensuite bedrooms
  • Competent staff and chef
  • Direct access to snorkeling in Coral Gardens
  • Full modern household conveniences
  • 360-degree roof views of the sky, sunsets and stars
  • A forest setting
  • Numerous easy to reach attractions

Whatever the reason, Baraka is certainly an elemental house! Nestled into coastal forest, home to flashing butterflies, monkeys and miniature antelope, the house is situated on a pristine beach opposite the famous Watamu National Marine Park, a venue to some of the finest snorkeling on the East African Coast.

While being within easy reach of the Arabuko-Sokoke Forest and an excellent starting point for butterfly and bird watching activities, the house is also only a five-minute drive away from Watamu village.

Baraka House has three, luxury, double ensuite bedrooms, each with its own private front and back balconies. There are several comfortable reception areas plus two roofs; one roof is for stargazing and a second roof comfortably sleeps four people under mosquito nets, making it viable to house slightly larger groups and families.

Meals can either be provided or self-catered, but in either case a chef is provided. Specialties include seafood, vegetarian and whole meal health food, but all tastes are catered to depending on your personal preference. In addition your cook can make homemade bread, granola, yogurt, cakes and biscuits.

Hiring Baraka House
The house is available to self-catering groups as well as specialized guided parties. The local supermarket can deliver your kitchen groceries. We can also help with local excursions.

Additional options at Baraka House
Baraka House has some specialized vacation possibilities organized by a variety of different group leaders. Some of the options include:

Baraka is a house for rent for your beach holiday in Kenya.

Baraka can host exclusive parties of 4-6 people. This vacation includes all meals, as well as meeting, and sometimes dining with, an assortment of interesting local experts and residents, plus surprise mystery tours and picnics to explore local places. It also includes dhow and fishing days with fresh-caught and coal-cooked lunch on Mida Creek, as well as snorkeling in the coral gardens, and evening beach fires with mellow live music amongst other entertainment.

Yoga and Meditation Holidays
These groups are led by experienced instructors, and include sunrise and sunset yoga workouts, meditation practice, holistic massage, bodywork and health food. No previous experience or skills are necessary.

Baraka House in Watamu is situated on a white, sand beach fringed with coral reefs and the warm Indian Ocean.

Creative Painting Holidays
Instruction and hosting by local artists with the accent on facilitating individual expression, rather than technical expertise. Different mediums will be introduced and developed. Workshops will take place in a variety of beautiful natural settings at home or on safari. This course caters for experienced painters as well as novices.

Meet the animals, plants and marine life of this rich and diverse Kenyan coast. Learn the customs of the local community. Get a feel for the geology and astronomy of Watamu. Discover turtles hatching, elephant shrews, lantern lit mangrove villages, shooting stars, orchids, corals and dolphins . . . and meet the experts who will introduce them to you.

Don't worry if you are only one person or two. Write to us anyway; if you want, we will combine you with others. Likewise, if your group is more than six or ten and you wish to make up a larger group, we can arrange to accommodate you in two houses.
